The Rocky Mountain Seminar in Early American History began in 2006, jointly sponsored by Brigham Young University and the University of Utah. The Seminar meets multiple times each academic year, inviting scholars of early American history to Salt Lake City to share in-progress research with a group of historians and students from the sponsoring institutions, as well as Utah State University, Utah Valley University, the Church History Library, and Weber State University, as well as other individuals from the local community, including public historians, archivists, and independent scholars.
Currently, Eric Herschtal (University of Utah) and Christopher Jones (Brigham Young University) co-direct the Seminar.
Previous directors include Brett Rushforth, Eric Hinderaker, Jenny Pulsipher, Chris Hodson, and Matt Mason.
